Self Destructive Sunshine Chilly Start to Week Ahead

Noreaster Possibility Next Weekend

We have gone from late summer weather to autumn weather thanks to yesterday’s old front and a storm that now sits in Eastern Canada. You can see rotation in the satellite loops of clouds over Eastern Canada and the Northeast. Cold unstable air is causing clouds to develop this afternoon and there are some scattered showers showing up on the regional radar. Overall it is a breezy chilly afternoon with most highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. There is the possibility of a scattered brief shower going into this evening but most of you probably won’t see anything of consequence.

This is setting us up for a chilly night of weather ahead. Skies should at least partially clear out overnight and the northwest breeze will continue. Temperatures by morning will drop to the 40s everywhere and we may see some 30s well inland in Northeastern Pennsylvania as well as parts of the Hudson Valley but no frost is forecast for the overnight period as temperatures will be well above freezing and the wind will help the cause.

Monday will be another chilly day and we will still be under the influence of the storm in Eastern Canada though that low will weaken as we move through the day so winds should ease somewhat. It will likely be another day of self destructive sunshine and the risk for a passing brief shower. Highs Monday will be in the upper 50s to some lower 60s.

Monday night won’t be as cool with clouds overnight and the risk there could be a passing shower as an upper trough moves through. Lows will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s. As the storm in Eastern Canada weakens, so will the flow of cooler air so temperatures should be able to rise a bit Tuesday. We expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs back in the 60s just about everywhere. Wednesday looks to be no worse than partly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 60s.

We don’t see any issues for Thursday and probably Friday though when we look at what is going on in the atmosphere we begin to see the pattern setting up for the next storm system coming moving eastward out of the Plains and into the Ohio Valley. Thanks to the blocky nature of the weather pattern, this low will likely track across the Lower Ohio Valley and eventually emerge off the Mid Atlantic coast by Saturday.

Models suggest that this could be a lenghty stretch of gloom and doom type conditions with raw conditions developing Friday night thanks to a northeast wind. Rain looks to develop during Saturday and the slow moving nature of this system suggests that we could see raw rainy conditions and a gusty northeast wind lasting through Sunday and possibly even into the start of next week though the specifics still need some fine tuning here. This will be focus tonight on the Joe & Joe Weather Show which will be live at 7:35pm on Youtube.
