Rainy Weekend Forecast Before Winter Returns
A rainy weekend is ahead of us but we still have 2 nice days ahead before we get there. Temperatures will be moderating as we move through the rest of the week. Firstly tonight it is another night of clear skies and light winds so temperatures will drop to the teens to near 10 in the coldest spots while warmer urban areas will bottom in the low to mid 20s. Thursday and Friday look like 2 very good days with sunshine. Highs will be in the low to mid 40s both days. Friday we will start to see some clouds arriving from the east as an onshore flow develops and from the west as a storm begins to organize.
Satellite loop shows something very interesting. Those clouds off the Florida coast are organizing into what could be a rare January tropical storm. Some models strengthen this into a hurricane in the next 4 days with winds forecast to reach 100 mph! It will be the first tropical system in January since 1978!
You can begin to see radar echos approaching the Western Great Lakes with some snow there. This is part of the next storm system that will give us the rainy weekend.
My thinking is that Saturday we will see raw conditions with light rain and an ocean wind. Temperatures in the low to mid 40s should do it. Then Sunday we could see some heavy rains with highs in the 50s before a cold front arrives. Rainfall amounts could be 1 inch or more in places. Once the rainy weekend is done, in comes the cold air for next week. In fact the pattern looks quite interesting in the long range with the European model leading the way.
