Gloomy Pattern Rain On & Off Into The Weekend
Gloomy Pattern Rain On & Off Into The Weekend
Yesterday’s severe weather which was probably one of the bigger area wide outbreaks of severe weather we have seen in quite some time is now behind us however we are going to be in a bit of a gloomy pattern going forward. On the satellite picture this morning the clouds from the frontal boundary are just to our south as the frontal boundary continues the process of buckling back and forth. With each buckle comes a round of rain or as in yesterday’s case severe thunderstorms. There will be no severe weather today to deal with but we do have some rain to the south that is moving northward. Also the disturbed weather that was over Florida & the Northeast Gulf of Mexico has not organized but the moisture has continued to push northward. This moisture will lend to the gloomy pattern we see with on and off rain into the weekend.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Patchy rain is showing up on both the regional and local radars and we will be seeing some on and off rain today. None of it should be especially heavy though there are a few heavy downpours in the mix.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
With the frontal boundary to the south and the cloudy rainy conditions today look for temperatures not to do very much with most readings holding in the 60s. The boundary shifts a bit further north on Thursday with some more on and off rain with highs in the 60s to near 70 in some places. Then it shifts back to the south on Friday with an onshore flow and more on and off rain which continues into the weekend.
RAINFALL FORECAST THROUGH FRIDAY MAY 18, 2018
Rainfall amounts through Friday evening could reach the 2 to 3 inch range in many places with a bit more as you head south. Eventually this could lead to some flooding issues as the ground becomes saturated. There really isn’t going to be much change in the pattern into next week with more opportunities for rain though it is not continuous.
