Rain Later Tonight Into Wednesday
Today turned out to be quite nice with just some passing morning clouds. Now we watch the satellite and radar as the next weather system approaches. Low pressure is heading into Western Pennsylvania and upstate New York tonight and Sunday morning. Clouds and rain are beginning to move into our satellite and radar range. There will be no rain issues tonight until after midnight as the first showers begin to arrive. They will move in first to areas north and west of the coast and then in the early morning hours, swing to the coastal areas as the cold front moves east

Rain and a few downpours will move through the area during the beginning of the Wednesday morning commute but the rains should be ending from west to east rather quickly Wednesday morning. We should dry out fast during Wednesday afternoon as cold air rushes in. Temperatures tonight will hold in the 40s and they could rise into the 50s over many areas before the front goes by. Then temperatures during Wednesday will settle in the 40s. Much colder air will take over for Wednesday night and through the rest of the week. Thursday should start with sunshine but then clouds will arrive in the afternoon as the next storm system approaches for Thursday night into Friday morning. It will be cold enough for snow except in perhaps Southern New Jersey where there might be just rain for awhile.
Rain Later Tonight Into Wednesday NAM MODEL FRIDAY EARLY AFTERNOON
The NAM model map is a bit deceptive because while it shows the darker blue heavy snow along the coast from coastal Northern New Jersey to Long Island, sun angle and temperatures don’t result in a large accumulation. My inital view is that it could be a coating to a couple of inches. Also the nam seems very slow in moving the coastal low out to the east. I tend to think this is probably incorrect and that weather conditions will be improving during Friday afternoon. The NAM has it snowing all day Friday. Again I don’t believe this is correct. The surface low was not any further north on the mid afternoon model run. Actually the surface low is further southeast on this run. I’m not sure why it is doing what it is doing on the northern edge of the snow shield. Total liquid precipitation on this run was on the order of .25 to .50 inches.
