Rain Forecast Through Midweek
Rain is actually in the forecast for the next few days though it won’t be raining straight through. Given how dry the overall pattern has been over the last few months we have see a small increase in the frequency of rain events so that at least is some good news. No rain is forecast through tonight however the first of 3 wet periods are setting up. The first is for the first part of tomorrow as a weak weather system moves through. Rain will be shooting up from the south
The NAM model is the least impressive with its radar presentation and has much of the area actually missing the rain. Some of it goes northwest and some of it passes southeast. The GFS has all of the area getting between a quarter and a half inch of rain and is more bullish on this. Given that this system is pretty weak I want to watch for the possibility of this first shot under performing. Either way there will a break in this later tomorrow into Wednesday until a warm front moves northward ahead of the very warm record breaking air that will be here Christmas Eve.
The NAM model is more bullish on the second area of rain and I would tend to agree with this idea. This rain comes Wedneday from late morning through late evening and this could put down about a half an inch or so. Once this second area is done we should be in the warm sector. While other models argue for passing showers through Thursday with much of the day dry, the Nam argues for no showers until the evening of Christmas Eve when a narrow band of showers moves through. Rain forecast amounts are for the entire period through Thursday evening.
Which ever way this plays, it should not be a problem if you are traveling and if you are travelling anywhere east of the Rockies there isn’t a flake of snow to be found. Record high temperatures in the 70s for Thursday have been pretty well advertised. Once the front moves through Christmas day will be dry and cooler with temperatures settling in the 50s as the day goes on. Merry Christmas!!!
You can see the current radar loops showing rain increasing to the west and southwest and we will monitor the wet weather as it progresses eastward.
