Quick Cold Shot Before Showery Rains Arrive

Very Warm Windy Saturday Thunderstorms Late PM

A cold front moved through overnight with a rather sharp but narrow line of rain and snow showers but that front is now offshore and we are going to have a very cold day ahead. Most highs today will just be in the low to middle 40s. We will have mostly sunny skies for much of the day. The wind will be on the gusty side into this afternoon but should begin to ease. This is a very quick shot of cold air and we will begin the next round of weather changes Friday as a storm moves out of the Northern Plains and heads to the Great Lakes.

This storm system is going to be a bit of a powerhouse especially when it comes to severe weather. We have the potential for another regional severe weather outbreak setting up for Friday up and down the entire Mississippi Valley as warm air surges out of the Gulf of Mexico and a powerful upper trough and cold front swing out of the Plains and push east toward the Ohio Valley.

Here in our neck of the woods in Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England we have a warm front that will be setting up Friday across New York State to Northern New Jersey so this will mean a wide range of temperatures from the 40s in New England to the 60s in South Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania.

Rain will likely set up Friday from Northeast Pennsylvania and Northern New Jersey north and east and not much to the south and west. Later Friday night as the storm moves across the Great Lakes and into Southeastern Canada we will see showery rains overnight into Saturday morning. Saturday will be a windy day as the first round of showers exits Saturday morning and we wait for showers and thunderstorms later Saturday afternoon and evening. Highs will reach into the upper 60s to mid 70s in many areas Saturday afternoon.

Wind is likely to be an issue Saturday with gusts of 30 to 40 mph likely. The strongest winds are likely to occur inland rather than the coast as that seems to be where the tightest pressure graident sets up. Once the front goes by and showers and thunderstorms come to an end early Saturday night weather conditions should improve Sunday.

Winds will still be rather strong and gusty into Sunday afternoon before winds begin to ease. Sunshine will only be able to take temperatuers back into the lower 50s in most places. Next week we will see a couple of weak weather systems early in the week and a stronger cold front and chance for showers later next week.
