Overall A Decent Spring Weekend Ahead With Only Minor Issues
Friday is here and the weekend lies ahead of us. Overall we are going to have a dry weekend and there are only some minor issues to discuss. We see clear skies this morning on the satellite picture across the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. High pressure is overhead. While it is weakening some it will hold a position along the East Coast over the weekend. The minor issues are weak upper troughs that will be moving through from time to time.
SATELLITE
For today we see nothing more than perhaps some patchy clouds that will develop in some spots. They will move in and out quickly and not produce any serious obstacles to a partly to mostly sunny day. Temperatures this afternoon should reach into the lower 70s and we will put in a range of 70 to 75. in most places. Local sea breezes will develop near the coast in the afternoon and evening which is nothing unusual. Well inland there is the very small chance for an isolated shower.
Tonight as skies should be mostly clear temperatures by morning will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. This takes us to Saturday and Sunday. Again no major issues are expected. Skies should be no worse than partly sunny. Saturday’s highs will be in the low to middle 70s.
A weak upper trough might trigger off an inland isolated shower or thunderstorm but we are talking widely scattered. The vast majority of you won’t see anything and even if you do, it won’t last long. Sunday we are using the same approach. Partly sunny skies should dominate. Perhaps there is a slightly higher chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm inland from the coast.
Next week overall looks to be a dry one. We are going to be in a bit of a sweet spot thanks to an upper high over the Great Lakes and a northwest flow over the Northeast with an upper air low to the east. The flow is split so that systems in the southern stream will remain suppressed to the south and can’t make the turn northward. The upper high is blocking weather systems in the Plains from moving straight west to east.
Models are forecasting this ridge to hang around all week and we may not see a front approach or pass through until late Thursday or Friday. This means that at least into Thursday we should be dry and no worse than partly sunny each day. Monday we might see some leftover clouds around and that could hold temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s but we should be in the 70s Tuesday. By Wednesday of next week some 80s will start to appear with Thursday looking like the warmest day for the coming week.
