Northeast Snow Ice Storm..No Forecast Changes
The overnight models were all pretty consistent and showed little change in my opinion regarding the northeast snow ice storm for Monday night into Tuesday morning. I’m making absolutely no changes to my forecast at this point. Main emphasis here will be well inland with only a minimal issue south of 287 in New Jersey and New York.
I still think the main action will be along and north of route 84 from Connecticut westward into the 84/80 intersect in Pennsylvania. Along the coast the temperatures in the 30s won’t be enough to cause a problem so there could be some sleet at the start for an hour or two before going to rain. Just inland it might last a little longer. All of course will depend of temperatures which we will watch closely. However models have trended warmer overnight especially on the forecast ground temperatures. North of 84 in Connecticut is a tough call as it may be cold enough there to create a solid thumping of snow especially around and north of Hartford where there could be at least a few inches before any change to freezing rain and eventually rain.
In much of New Jersey south of route 80 and in much of Eastern Pennsylvania south of route 78 there is absolutely nothing to worry about at all since it will be too warm and virtually all rain in those areas unless you see a few ice pellets in the mix at the start.
