Northeast Ice Storm For Interior Northeast First Call
The idea of a Northeast ice storm for the interior looks pretty likely for later Monday night into Tuesday afternoon. One of the issues will be timing. We know the low track is well to the west and I think it will be left of the GFS model and surface temperatures will be a just a little bit colder. The air building down from New England will be cold and very dry which will allow for some evaporational cooling. Based on what I have seen so far this is my first call on Monday night & Tuesday
The main area of risk is going to be from Route 84 northward. Icing seems likely here as the cold air should wedge in firmly for a few hours before it slowly warms up and changes to rain as the precipitation winds down. Below is the National Weather Service Snowfall Forecast Map. This map will auto update.
Model Analysis from overnight.
I will be taking a look at the other models as they come out this afternoon and see if any trends develop. In the meantime this afternoon locally we will be in clouds and it is noticeably cooler with temperatures holding in the mid 40s northern areas and lower 50s south. Some downpours will be around tonight and then some sun and clouds with more record highs for Sunday in the 60s. We start to turn colder as we move into Monday morning.
