Nice Finish to the Week Then Gloom & Doom Noreaster Offshore For the Weekend
We are in a bit of a sweet spot today. Low pressure will be moving across Florida today bringing rain to the Southeast US and Florida but as the satellite loop shows, the clouds from this system are to the south of us and are moving eastward and not northward.

In the meantime we have the low pressure area in Eastern Canada with the upper air storm still sitting there but that upper air storm is starting to weakens somewhat. It will also begin a slow move to the east over the next two days and wind up in Atlantic Canada by Saturday.
This leaves us in a good spot both day and Friday. High pressure in Central Canada is building southward and well as eastward, squeezing itself in between the the system moving to Atlantic Canada and a new storm coming out of the Plains. The result is sunshine today with nothing more than a few passing clouds and the same forecast holds for Friday. Today’s highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Friday it will be cooler as that high builds southward long the East Coast and highs will be just in the 60s.
Now we move on to the weekend as low pressure in the Plains moves across the Ohio Valley. Blocking to the northeast will lead to that low moving into Eastern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania and redeveloping off the Delaware coast Saturday. The European model loop showing this is at the top of the post. Here we show the GFS idea which is similar.
There is still a bit of a timing issues regarding the start of the rain Saturday. We will split the difference and say rain develops Saturday morning between daybreak and noon from west to east. The heaviest rain is a little difficult to pinpoint but we would say that the heaviest rain will occur in Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey with more emphasis on th southern part of this zone verses north.
The rainfall forecast map is showing rainfall through Saturday evening 8pm so we could some of these amounts double especially from South Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania and points south. It seems the rains will be pulling out from west to east early Sunday morning but we will struggle to clear out because the flow is still onshore and the upper trough to the west may not pass through for another couple of days.
Saturday and Sunday will both be raw days with a northeast wind that will be on the gusty side. We would call this a low end noreaster so it should be manageable. Temperatures both Saturday and Sunday will not get out of the 50s. Look for clouds to continue Monday and Tuesday and with low pressure offshore and the upper trough to the west, don’t be surprised if we see some patchy showers that rotate back westward from the ocean to inland areas.
