New Year Arrives With Minimal Weather Issues, Quiet Week Ahead

It is the last weekend of December and the last weekend of 2023. As we look around we see no major issues through the weekend and next week appears to be quiet through Friday. Today we have an upper trough that is moving through the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. This means we will have clouds around today along with some breaks of sunshine. The radar is showing some rain and snow shower activity around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario as well as parts of Upstate NY. We are going to throw in the chance that there could be a light passing rain shower this afternoon but otherwise for most of you it should be an uneventful day. Highs will reach the low and mid 40s this afternoon. The northwest wind will pick up a bit as the day wears on.

Drier air should move in tonight and skies should at least partially clear out. Sunday morning lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Sunday will be a nice sunny day with nothing more than a few passing clouds. High temperatures will be in the low to middle 40s which is a little above average for this time of year.

Sunday night we see no weather issues in case you are travelling or you have people travelling to you. Perhaps you are just staying home and going to bed early as I am. Skies should be mostly clear with lows Monday morning in the upper 20s to mid 30s and it should be in the low to mid 30s in case you decide that being outdoors is where you want to spend your time when the ball drops at midnight.

Monday, New Years Day will be another decent day with some sunshine. There is a weak cold front that will be moving through during the day but other than some passing clouds, we don’t see any real issues of concern. Monday highs will be in the low to middle 40s.

At the moment we are seeing a mostly uneventful quiet week across the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states. Tuesday and Wednesday should both be nice days with sunshine forecast Tuesday and no worse than sunshine and some high clouds for Wednesday. Highs both days will be in the low to mid 40s and nights will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s for lows. Low pressure will move across the Gulf States and off the Southeast US coast Wednesday night and Thursday. Chances are this low will move northeast offshore and not have any consequence to our weather, leaving us dry for Thursday and Friday and not much change with regards to temperatures. It might turn a little colder Friday. There is a second system indicated next weekend that will develop to our south but for now it looks to slide underneath us. We continue to plod along with no major storms and the snow drought across much of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic will continue for at least another week.
