Major Winter Storm Continues

Some Areas Seeing Additional Snow Overnight And Tuesday

What a day and what a storm and it is still going this evening. We watched all day long as snow bands with convection come in from off the ocean with intensity rates of several inches an hour. One foot plus snows are commonplace across the Northern Half of New Jersey to the Hudson Valley, NYC and Long Island. Connecticut is picking up accumulating snow this evening as are other areas. Winter Storm Warnings continue along with High Wind and Coastal Flood Warnings along the immediate coast.

The map above shows the snowfall forecast beginning at 4pm today and continuing through Tuesday night. These are not final totals but additional snow that is forecast to fall on top of what already is on the ground.

There are still some bands coming in from off the ocean this evening but the attention shifts to the surface low and the backside snow that is moving southward back into Maryland and Delaware. Couple that with the snow that arcs east west to the north of the low center and you have probably more snow to deal with overnight into Tuesday. Follow the map and notice that some areas do get a bit if a break while others do not. During the time frame from now until Tuesday evening, look for an additional few to as much as 6 inches on top of the 12 to 18 that has fallen in most places.

Our well defined system shows up on both the satellite and regional radars and you can see the echoes rotating counter clockwise and filling back in. Some heavy bands are developing in Southeast Pennsylvania and in Central and South Jersey. This is going to be an hour by hour watch on the radar.

We should finally see genuine improvement on Wednesday and Thursday with some sunshine returning and temperatures in the 30s. Friday brings a front through with maybe a shower or two. That front stalls and we could see another storm system over the weekend though how it plays out remains a bit of a mystery at this point.
