LONG ISLAND WEATHER CHILLY TO VERY COLD MONDAY & TUESDAY
Long Island weather is going to undergo more changes over the next few days. A chilly air mass has moved in for today which brings temperatures down close to normal. Then on Monday we have a cold front that will be moving through bringing in a shot of very cold air. That shot will be short lived as the core of the cold air goes out on Wednesday but it is going to be a sharp reminder that winter is here and December’s extreme temperatures have not made winter go away. Tuesday morning lows will be in the middle teens across much of the island and the wind will be gusty for much of Monday night which means wind chills will be down near zero.
Today and Sunay will feature a mix of sun and clouds. The flow over the warm Great Lakes is picking up some moisture and producing some cloud cover from time to time. But for the most part the weather should be reasonable. Temperatures Saturday will top close to 40 making it the most normal day we have seen in over a month. Sunday it will be a little milder in the low to mid 40s before the cold front comes through.
When the front comes through on Monday there could be a small band of snow showers that might whiten the ground in spots. Other than that it will be precipitation free for the weekend and much of this coming week.
The end of the week Long Island weather will see the first of 2 storms that will be approaching from the south and there will be questions regarding how much cold air and precipitation type.
