New England Ski Resorts Leaping For Joy!
New England ski resorts have been praying for snow and a weather pattern change and they got it. Granted the 4 to 10 inches they got Wednesday night and Thursday wasn’t a block buster but it was enough to open up most trails in Central and Northern New England. Couple that with the weather pattern shift and New England ski resorts are celebrating that the New Years holiday weekend was saved. Over the weekend some more snow is likely in Central and Northern New England and what they can’t get the free way, they can get the man made way as the weather will be cold enough to make snow all next week and beyond. Here is the forecast snowfall map through the weekend.
The satellite loop shows the flow coming straight out of Central and Eastern Canada with the unfrozen Great Lakes providing some moisture to add to the snow cover across upstate New York. Southern areas will have to wait until later next week for a shot at important snow with the first chance coming this weekend. Models are signalling storm development and this should be quite favorable for snow even in southern areas of New York and New England south of Interstate 90.
The GFS weather model is forecasting some pretty robust snowfall over the next 10 days. The bulk of this is forecast to fall next weekend. Longer term it appears that the pattern will be favorable for cold and snow right through mid January and possibly beyond.
