Long Island Snow Forecast Tuesday Snow Chance Again Late Week
Cold Week Ahead
The wind advisory that has been up for Long Island since Friday night will expire this evening as winds continue to slowly ease up overnight. Also the snow showers and snow squalls are done on the radar. Now we move on to the next weather system which will bring snow late Monday night and into Tuesday. We have a cold night ahead as skies partially clear out. Temperatures by morning will be in the upper teens to around 20 degrees. Monday will be a cold day with sunshine and high clouds. Highs will reach around or just barely over 30. The arctic front has passed and the upper trough is moving offshore so radars will shut down soon enough and we do not expect any issues through the daytime Monday.

WEATHER RADAR
Monday night low pressure will form off the Southeast Coast of the US. This is not a strong system and we have some moisture with it but it is limited. There seems to be ample enough cold air to produce a light accumulating snow event. Snow will arrive sometime during the early morning hours before daybreak and continue into the late afternoon ending from west to east by evening.
Most of the models are showing around 3 tenths of an inch or so of melted liquid so if every drop of that fell as snow and accumulated we could see 2 to 3 inches islandwide. Im thinking that perhaps the lower end of that range stands a good chance to happening and overall I’m going for a couple of inches of accumulation. The NWS snowfall forecast map is pretty much on the same page with this idea.
We probably will see Winter Weather Advisories go up for this sometime Monday since the snowfall will be mostly during Tuesday. Once the offshore low passes out to the east, another shot of colder air comes in and we will be in the teens to near 20 Wednesday and Thursday morning. Wednesday and Thursday will be cold days with sunshine. Highs will likely be in the upper 20s to around 30 or so.
Another low will be moving across the Deep South Thursday and then turning up the East Coast Friday. This low has more too it both moisture wise and aloft so we see clouds increasing Friday and snow possible for Friday into Friday night. Models continue to come in stronger on this system over the last few days and haven’t changed much since yesterday so confidence is growing that we could see a more signifcant accumulating snow for the end of this week. Behind this storm will be the coldest air of the season so far for next week. However the pattern looks to relax next wee and a warming trend will get underway beginning next Monday.
