Long Island Sees Mainly Sunny Skies Last Weekend of Summer
This weekend is going to be a lovely weekend of weather on Long Island. It is the last weekend of summer. Almost all the weekends this summer featured good weather for outdoor activities. We had our fair share of heat and humidity but not today. We are going to see sunny skies today. The wind is going to turn to the southwest as high pressure heads off shore. However the cooler air seems to want to hang on for an extra day so most highs will be in the low to mid 70s. Humidity levels will be low.
Saturday night will be nice and clear with most lows in the 50s to lower 60s. Sunday is setting up to be a partly to mostly sunny day. Warmer air will be moving in on southwest winds. Dew points will be coming up but as far as the humidity goes it won’t be unreasonable by any means. Highs away from the ocean could reach the mid 80s in Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County. Temperatures along the south shore will be cooler, upper 70s to lower 80s seems fair. No rain is forecast this weekend.
Monday brings a weak cold front from the northwest. It won’t have much with it so ahead of it will be partly sunny. The day could start with morning low clouds and fog in some areas but it will burn off. Late in the day there could be a shower or thunderstorm but the chance is low and most of the day will be rain free. Highs Monday again will be in the mid 80s but the humidity will be higher than Sunday so it will be uncomfortable. Tuesday through Thursday will be in the warm 80s each day before another cold front comes through late Thursday. That will be followed by a cool Canadian air mass for Friday and next week. Right now Tropical Storm Fiona does not appear to be an East Coast threat.
