After this weekend is done and a cold front comes through Sunday at least we have maybe 2 days of sunshine (hopefully). Im banking on Monday into Tuesday. Monday looks safe. Tuesday I’m not so sure. This long week of dreary conditions will take all weekend to get undone. Some brightening of skies are possible Saturday though the onshore flow might keep clouds stubborn at the coast. Showers are forecast for part of Sunday as a cold front comes through. All of this because the block is finally breaking down and winds turn more northwesterly aloft. Everything can move along like it is supposed.

However promising this look is, unfortunately it is not going to last as the upper vortex in the east slowly pulls out. We gradually transition over into a split flow in the atmosphere. By split we mean that the jet stream has two distinct flows. By Thursday you can see the split very well.

The implications of that ridge in East Central Canada could be the establishment of the onshore flow yet again as low pressure moves across the southern branch of the jet stream The GFS model picks up on this and sets up the frontal boundary to the south of New York City and then gradually sinks that boundary further south as low pressure moves to the east. This would be for Wednesday and Thursday of next week. The result at least will be clouds again and probably some rain though it is too early to see how that plays out at this point.

Beyond that things may be moving slowly in the atmosphere so this could get stretched out beyond next Thursday.
