Hurricane Joaquin Nearing Bermuda, Hurricane Warning In Effect

Hurricane Joaquin continues to move northeastward at a pretty good clip and after reaching almost a category 5 hurricane this afternoon it has weakened some during the evening. The satellite does show a bit more of a ragged look and it is likely to slowly weaken as it moves toward Bermuda. Hurricane Warning is now in effect for Bermuda but the hurricane should take a jog to the left on Sunday that should keep the core of the hurricane to the west of the island. It will be a close call and tropical storm conditions will be experienced there.http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/floaters/11L/imagery/vis_lalo-animated.gif

One of the things that really stands out on the loop is the strong tropical inflow that is going on off the Atlantic into the Carolinas where they are getting hammered with over a foot of rain and extensive flooding being reported in many areas. Meanwhile the noreaster conditions that are affecting the NYC Long Island New Jersey coastalines continues with another overnight high tide with coastal flooding and beach erosion likely. But this is a completely separate event from the hurricane. The track of Joaquin should accelerate to the northeast into the westerlies once the hurricane goes north of Bermuda.
