High Wind Warning Flood Watch Coastal Flood Advisory
As Major Storm Brings Fierce Winds & Heavy Rain
The first of two major storms will be arriving Tuesday and watch and warning flags are flying. We have a High Wind Warning for late Tuesday through the daytime Wednesday. Southeast winds ahead of a cold front will be increasing to near gale force by Tuesday evening. Then the worst of the winds will be overnight into Wednesday morning until the cold front passes. Winds will be gusting 50 to 60 mph at times. Storm Warnings are posted for the coastal waters. We also have Coastal Flood Advisories up for flooding at high tides. There could be areas of moderate coastal flooding and we are approaching a new moon.
Also we have Flood Watches up for heavy rain on the order of 2 to 3 inches and there could be a few thunderstorms in the mix as well. Local road flooding of the normal suspect spots is expected and there might be a few places that don’t normally flood in a heavy that will have some issues.

WEATHER RADAR
Weather conditions will deteriorate Tuesday as rain will arrive by midday or early afternoon and then become heavy late in the day into Tuesday night. Winds increase and Tuesday night will be a rather difficult night with a windswept heavy and that continues until the front passes and winds shift to the west. That probably happens Wednesday morning around daybreak or so. Coastal flooding at high tide is going to be an issue during the Tuesday and Tuesday night high tides. Areas of moderate coastal flooding are forecast especially in the most vulnerable areas on the Long Island South Shore. Temperatures will be rising into the 50s. Wednesday we will still be windy with gusts of 40 mph all day long and clouds giving way to some sunshine. Temperatures will settle in the 40s. Another major storm heading to our west will usher in a repeat performance of heavy rains and strong winds Friday night into Saturday.
