HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS IN NEW JERSEY, MODERATE RISK LONG ISLAND

For the first time all summer the New Jersey shore will be seeing a high risk of rip currents today thanks to a gusty northeast wind at around 15 to 20 knots so exercise extreme caution when swimming. Rip currents can take down even the most experienced swimmers. For Long Island it is the usually the south wind that causes a high risk of rip currents but an an east or northeast wind can produce a moderate risk. Small Craft advisories are in effect for all coastal waters today.
