Heavy Rain Possible Monday

Heavy Rain Possible Monday

If we are going to get record breaking temperatures of 20 or more degrees above normal this weekend at least we should be able to get some heavy rain out of this when the air mass finally changes. We will have that opportunity on Monday as a strong storm heads for the Great Lakes and a fast moving front passes through. Given all the warm air ahead of it and the depth of the system you might think we should be able to get an inch or so of rain. At least that is the hope.

The GFS has a very deep storm heading for the Northern Great Lakes. The front with it is forecast to move through rather quickly. It actually swings Western Pennsylvania and it  is already past us by Monday evening. The European is about 6 hours slower but has a similar idea. To show you just how little cold air there is, normally something like this would produce a good round of lake effect snows behind it but even the snow is confined to the northern most areas in the Great Lakes. It is not even going to get that cold behind this at least initially. We will have to wait for a second system that will move through later in the week. So we will go from 20 degrees above normal to 5 to 10 degrees above normal. That is how out of wack the pattern is right now.

The second front due late in the week will probably bring temperatures down to seasonal levels. The European model has a colder look and would take temperatures below normal. Both models hint at wave development on the front late next week. Whether it winds up being something to keep an eye on or not remains to be seen and at this point remains in the area of speculation at best.
