Gloom & Doom To Self Destructive Sunshine & Showers Next Week Long Island

Long Island is known for miserable spring weather which is the signature weather for the Coastal Northeast from Maine to New Jersey so there is really nothing new here. It happens every spring, everyone complains about it, and it usually doesn’t really shut off until sometime in June when the switch is flipped and suddenly it’s summer heat.

In the meantime we have a miserable Saturday afternoon rain from overnight and more on and off rain into this evening. Couple that with a wind off the ocean you have temperatures at best in the low to mid 50s. When it is not raining steadily we have patches of light rain or drizzle and some fog. It all makes for gloom and doom and this will continue for the rest of today and into Sunday morning.

Sunday brings the next round of steady rain and there might even be a rumble or two of thunder as low pressure on a cold front moves northward up the east side of the Appalachians. Rain will redevelop and there could be some heavier downpours into Sunday night. When it is all said and one most of Long Island will finish up with 2 inches of rainfall from the two weather systems in play. Sunday highs will be in the mid to upper 50s.

The storm system moves up into Eastern Canada Sunday night and while we lose the marine flow, we will be under a very cold and unstable air mass for much of next week. This means that we will days that start out hopeful with sunshine only to see that sunshine basically self destruct with developing clouds and even some scattered afternoon and evening showers. This will be the case Monday through Wednesday with highs in the mid 50s to near 60 each day and chilly nights in the 40s. Wednesday into Thursday will see the highest chance for showers as the upper air system drops southeast from Canada and moves overhead. We may have to wait for the end of the week or next weekend to see a dry day for Long Island from start to finish.
