Front Moving In, Rainfall Forecast Maps For Thursday
Below you will find the latest rainfall forecast maps for the New York, Northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and Long Island and they update automatically as the National Weather Service updates them. No severe thunderstorm activity is expected however some heavier downpours and a one or two thunderstorms are possible and this could enhance the rainfall in some areas.
Much of the rain will be tapering off after the evening hours and then weather conditions will improve overnight and on Friday.
Rain is expected to total around an inch in most places with some locally higher amounts. The rainfall deficit in the area averages around 10 inches. Since the rain events here have been few and far between we need at least an inch to keep the deficit where it is. Once this system moves through the next chance for showers will be Saturday night with the next cold front but that front will be moisture starved and it will not produce much in the way of rainfall. Sunday morning, if there is any lingering moisture there cold be a few snow showers in the mix as colder air arrives. Once this weather system is through there may not be any rain through all of Thanksgiving week as the weather is forecast to by dry and cool through Wednesday. The core of the cold air will be replaced by another big high building in New England later in the week. This will probably mean an onshore flow will develop and that could mean cloud issues. However there are no other big storms on the horizon for this coming week.
