Cold Over Long Island Tonight & Chilly Monday
We had a very nice day today once the clouds dropped southward with sunshine but it was noticeably cooler and now get set for a cold night tonight with a mix of clear skies and some passing clouds. Temperatures will make their way down through the 30s. There should be just enough of a breeze and combined with occasional clouds, that should keep temperatures from falling much below 30 though some cold spots in Suffolk County could see 20s.
Monday we are going to have some sunshine however the winds will be coming in from the east. That means our air is coming over relatively warm water and into the chilly air overhead so some clouds will develop as the day wears on. Temperatures are not going to get out of the 40s on Monday. The Satellite loop below shows clouds and moisture not that far away and tehre is a lot fo moisture coming out of the Gulf states. This is going to be our weather maker beginning on Tuesday. More clouds will come in Monday night with the onshore flow so that should keep temperatures from falling much below 40.
You can see the rain developing on the radar above. Initially the rain hits the dry air in the east and winds up drying out but eventually as the air mass becomes saturated that rain should make progress on Tuesday and we will see some light rain developing during Tuesday. The heavier rain should hold off until Tuesday night into Wednesday as a cold front approaches. Right now it appears we could see rainfall on the order of a half inch to perhaps an inch before the rain ends later Wednesday afternoon and evening. We should dry out Thursday and into next weekend with no storms to worry about once we get through Wednesday.
