COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY FOR THE NEW JERSEY SHORE

With the developing onshore flow over the next few days, high pressure to the north and lower pressures to the south, plus a full moon, the stage is set for possible coastal flooding for Long Island and particularly for New Jersey where the northeast to east wind blows perpendicular to the shore. Couple that with rough ocean seas of 8 feet or higher and we could see tides running about a foot above normal. Right now it appears it would be minor flooding. If we had a strong low to the south moving up and gales the outcome might be quite different and much more severe but for now it appears that flooding prospects should be minor in nature. A coastal flood advisory is up for New Jersey for the weekend as well as Small Craft Advisories for all of the ocean coastal waters from Long Island and New Jersey southward. There is also a high risk of rip currents all weekend long so swimming is not advisable.
