Chilly Air Returns No Rain Until Probably Wednesday Night Thursday

We are enjoying a nice day of sunshine as our weekend sees the return of chilly air. Temperatures today are about 15 to 20 degrees lower than yesterday. Temperatures will reach the 40s this afternoon. Winds have dropped off but it is still occasionally breezy out there. The satellite shows very little in the way of cloud cover at midday. High clouds across the Southern Mid Atlantic are with the old frontal boundary which has stalled out and remains weak.

Most lows tonight will be in the low to mid 30s. Sunday we will briefly warm up ahead of another surge of colder air. Highs Sunday will be in the low to mid 50s with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will ease later in the day and drop into mid teens to lower 20s Monday morning.

Monday we will see sunshine most of the day but it will be a cold day indeed with many areas having a tough time getting out of the 30s. Most highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

We have a major snowstorm in the Rockies and Western Plains underway today and many areas will see snow on the order of 2 feet or more. Normally a storm like this would be a weather maker here but the upper pattern is not only unfavorable for weather systems to move east, it will take this storm and weaken it rather quickly. Other than lots of clouds Tuesday we don’t expect much to happen. It will be a gloomy doomy type of day. Temperatures Tuesday will likely be in the raw 40s. The new GFS shows a second low moving out of the southwest. This one will likely bring the first widespread rain event starting sometime later Wednesday night and continue through Thursday. We should see improving weather conditions next Friday and a nice dry but chilly weekend for the arrival of spring.
