Blizzard Watch Continues

BLIZZARD WATCH continues for areas from Long Island and New Jersey mainly south of route 78. We should point out that a blizzard DOES NOT MEAN 2 FEET OR EVEN A FOOT OF SNOW. Blizzard means heavy snow for several hours with strong winds and blinding visibility. So you can have just 6 inches of snow as an example and still have blizzard conditions. The temperature criteria has been removed.

Now that we have that straight my snow forecast map remains the same. I am making no changes even though the European was a shade further south on its run. I want to be careful here as we head into the short range given what happened last weekend with the coastal low that backed in at the last minute. So no important changes are being made to my forecast at this time. MORE SNOWFALL FORECAST MAPS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE LINK BELOW.

For comparison here is the National Weather Service Forecast snowfall map and they raised it a little since this morning. The reason they did this is because some of the short range models are more buillish with moving snow further north along with the heaviest snow bands. This continues to leave me a bit cautious. It is 4 runs in a row that the NAM is doing this so I will air on the side of caution and leave things be.

Radar is beginning to show precipitation heading into Tennessee and building in Georgia as well. The storm producing this is progressing along. It will be important to see where this all is later this evening and tonight and how it matches up with the model forecasts.

For review here are last night’s videos of the GFS/NAM & European analysis. No Changes in my short range forecast outlook. Skies will be clear tonight with lows in the teens to near 20. Sunshine giving way to arriving clouds with highs in the 20s to near 30 for Friday.
