Severe Thunderstorms Baltimore Washington DC
Severe weather south of us around the Washington DC Baltimore area are creating delays at the local airports. This is part of the developing area of rain that is moving rather quickly to the northeast and we should see rain and thunderstorms moving into Southeast Pennsylvania in the next few hours and then into Southern New Jersey and eventually to New York City Long Island Connecticut and the Hudson Valley. The severe thunderstorms won’t make it north of Southern New Jersey but the rains will as the HRRR model below indicates.

The HRRR model has rain moving into New Jersey by 11pm and then covering the entire region after midnight. It is also faster in getting it out the way as it ends in New Jersey around 4 to 5 am and in eastern areas after 6am.
Rainfall amounts remain in the 1/2 inch to 1 inch range for most of the area but from Central New Jersey southward 1 to 2 inches are possible especially if some of these thunderstorms manage to survive the trip northward into the marine layer.
