Severe Thunderstorm Watch Western NJ West & South To Virginia
Strong Storms Heading East
The warm front this evening lies just north of Northern New Jersey to Western Long Island so areas south and west of the front got into the warm sector and thunderstorms are now rolling through Eastern Pennsylvania and entering into New Jersey.
Storms are at the peak intensity until 7pm or so and then they should start to weaken especially as the near the coast where the marine layer is still keeping things cool and damp east and northeast of NYC. Keep your eye to the sky if you are in the watch area which expires at 9pm.
SATELLITE
The cold front heads offshore and slows down by morning. Showers and thunderstorms with the front should remain mostly offshore but we have the issue of the upper trough for Friday coming through. Look for clouds and some breaks of sun. Some scattered shower and thunderstorms will be running around Friday. Most highs will be in the mid 70s to around 80. There won’t be much of an ocean influence at the coast so here too there is the risk for a shower or a thunderstorm
The well advertised large ridge aloft builds into the east this weekend and we will warm up quickly. Highs Saturday will be in a rage from 85 to 90 degrees with temperatures a little lower along coastal areas and in areas with south facing shorelines like Long Island and Southern New England. Sunday will be very warm to hot just about everywhere with sunshine and highs in the mid 80s to lower 90s. No thunderstorms or showers are forecast for the weekend.
Next week will be hot and humid with sunshine into Wednesday with highs each day into the 90s inland and a little lower at the coast. Thunderstorm chances will be minimal if at all. Late Wednesday a cold front arrives with showers and thunderstorms. The front should keep moving and we clear out and turn cooler on Thursday. This front moving along is important since next Thursday there will be an annular eclipse (not annual) at sunrise which will be visible here so we are hoping for clear skies. So far so good.
