Quick Blast of Bitter Cold Fast Reflex Rally Back to the 40s Sunday, Warmer Than Normal Next Week

Quick Blast of Bitter Cold Fast Reflex Rally Back to the 40s Sunday,

Warmer Than Normal Next Week

Today will see the arrival of a bitter cold air mass. The arctic boundary is moving through this morning and with it s a narrow line of light snow showers that don’t amount to much of anything. It will be about the wind and falling temperatures today as we have already seen the highs for the day. In some respects today will feel worse than Saturday morning when we see the absolute lows at daybreak. Today it is about gusty winds to 40 mph and temperatures that will fall into the teens this afternoon. It will come with cloudy to partly sunny skies. Wind chills will make it feel like it is down in the single digits late today and below zero tonight. Lows Saturday morning under clear skies will be in the single digits to near 10 from NYC south and below zero across Upstate NY as well as Southern and Southeastern New England.

The cold air comes in and goes out in a big hurry so after a cold start, Saturday actually will see temperatures bounce rather nicely under sunny skies. Highs will be back into the 20s and some areas in Southern New Jersey and points southward will reach the upper 20s to around 30.

From the highs Saturday temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning will not drop very much as we will be in the teens to near 20 inland and low to mid 20s warmer urban centers and along the coast. Sunday we will see sunshine and some patchy clouds, a southwest wind, and temperatures that will soar into the 40s. This is a 40 degree or more swing from the lows Saturday morning!

So much for winter which so far has consisted of 2 arctic blasts lasting a handful of days, this one even shorter at just 36 hours. Next week it is back to the same ole same ole. Cold air disappears from the scene across much of the US and certainly east of the Rockies. We have no major storms to worry about with just a cold front for Wednesday and the chance for showers perhaps when the front passes.

Next week we will also see very mild temperatures with highs reaching the 50s Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. Longer range we have a storm system late week that coms out of the Gulf States but this will follow the usual course northeastward and up the west side of the Appalachians. There really isn’t much of a cold flow  of air developing in Canada. So we basically just trudge along and each day gets us one day closer to spring.
