Stormy Pattern Lies Ahead
It is a day of gloom & doom across much of Southern and Southeastern New England southward to Eastern Virginia and North Carolaina. Low pressure is straddling the coastline until it slides offshore east of New Jersey and South of Long Island later today and tonight. Winds coming in off the ocean will make for a raw and mostly wet day with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Radars are picking up on a solid area of rain over the Mid Atlantic heading north northeastward. Rainfall amounts in general will be on the order of three quarters of an inch to an inch or so near the coast with less amounts across Northwest New Jersey and Northeast Pennsylvania northeast to the Hudson Valley.

This low is going to slide eastward tonight and Sunday and that should allow for the onshore flow to relax some and for weather conditions to improve. Clouds however will be stubborn to get out of the way and there may be some leftover rain around this evening. Most lows tonight will be in the 40s as there is no real cold air anywhere to speak of across much of the US and Southern Canada.
Sunday should be a better day with clouds early giving way to some sunshine Winds will still be coming in from off the ocean but it will not be a strong low. Temperatures along the coast will reach into the 50s but highs inland will likely reach the upper 50s and lower 60s. The break in the action will continue Monday with some sunshine but the flow will still be from the east and highs Monday will be in the cooler 50s area wide. Along south and east facing shorelines, 40s are likely.
Clouds will increase Monday night and another weak low will develop off the Southeast US coast and sneak up the coast. This will bring some rain late Monday night into Tuesday afternoon. This system will probably keep most of it’s rain near the coast rather than spread it well inland but either way it will be a cloudy, gloom & doom type of day with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s in most areas along the coast but upper 50s and lower 60s well inland.
This is a busy pattern that lies ahead of us. Storms and energy continue to move into the Western US and today is the third day of a raging snow storm for the mountains of the West coast to the Northern Rockies. Snow is being measured in feet and we are talking 10 feet or more in some places. The stormy pattern in the Western US will keep sending energy eastward so another low and cold front will arrive with rain later Wednesday into Thursday and yet another for next weekend.
