Cold Front Moves Offshore Slow Improvement Ahead of a Quiet Week Ahead
The day starts with a cold front moving offshore. The satellite loop shows the cold front like an arm lifting out to the east. We have a storm sitting over the Great Lakes that won’t move very much today but we are seeing dry air coming up from the southwest. That will lead to decreasing clouds and increasing sunshine as we move through this Monday. Temperatures are going to settle back down closer to normal over the next few days as highs today will be mostly in the 60s. Showers on the radar loop continue to lift northward and there is nothing rain wise to worry about for later today other than a brief leftover isolated shower.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
We will cool off nicely tonight as skies clear out. Morning lows Tuesday will be in the low to middle 40s. The dayside Tuesday should feature a fair amount of sunshine and nothing more than a few passing clouds. Temperatures however will be a bit on the chilly side compared to normal with highs mostly in the 50s.
Wednesday we start to see temperatures heading a little higher. High pressure will pass offshore and we will begin a slow warmup that will take us through the rest of the week and into the weekend. A warm front will start to form later Wednesday across Upstate NY and New England and this is a plus as that should keep onshore flow issues localized as far as temperatures are concerned.
Sunshine should take temperatures into the low and middle 60s for highs with 50s along the coast thanks to local sea breezes that will develop. Thursday we will take it up a little higher with a high offshore and a mostly west to southwest wind. Thursday we see winds turning more to the south which means inland areas will reach into the 70s with cooler readings along the coast and in Southern New England. Thursday highs will be in the 70s except for lower 80s in Southern Pennsylania and 60s in Southern and Southeastern New England.
Friday winds will be more from the southeast and that will create wider ranges in high temperatures to the west and south of NYC which will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s while north and east of NYC we will likely see highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Both Thursday and Friday will feature some sunshine.
Two storm systems this week head to the Great Lakes. One Thursday which will track way to the west and is of no issue here. The second one comes further east with a cold front and series of waves on the front. This should stay to our west Saturday leaving us dry and on the warm side but Sunday will likely be a day of clouds, showers and possibly some thunderstorms as the slow moving front approaches and then moves offshore. Right now Saturday looks to be the better of the two weekend days.
