A Sunday of Sunshine Week Ahead Warms Up First Half

The coastal storm system to the east of Southeastern New England is moving away to the northeast and taking with it whatever rain is offshore and whatever clouds are leftover behind it. This leaves us in a rather good place for this Sunday and once the low clouds burn off, expect to see increasing amounts of sunshine today. Most highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon. It might be a tad breezy for awhile but the winds should start to ease off late today. Radars show the rain well out to the east and the remainder of the area remains nice and quiet.

One thing about cool air masses this time of year is that when they pull out, the strong seasonal patterns take hold and temperatures bounce rather quickly higher. Most lows tonight will be in the 40s under mainly clear skies. Monday looks to be a nice sunny day. Temperatures will be reaching into the 70s away from the immediate coast thanks to a south to southwest wind.

The warm up continues Tuesday with plenty of sunshine. High temperatures will reach into the lower 80s in many locations inland with 70s close to the coast. All this runs ahead of the next in a series of cold fronts. One arrives late Wednesday with some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm. Highs Wednesday will be mostly in the 70s. There is a second front behind it with a wave developing on it and that could bring a round of rain for Thursday as temperatures trend lower.

Once that weather system plays through we have another cool air mass coming in for Friday and next weekend which includes Sunday, Mother’s Day. Right now the bet is that it could turn out to be a day much like today weatherwise with some developing sunshine but no guarantees yet from the weather management.
