A Mostly Dry Saturday But Showers Tonight into Sunday Afternoon

Week Ahead Outlook

Yesterday’s weather system as moved away to the east as satellite and radar loops show. No doubt that today, Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days because as satellite loops also show we have clouds moving across the Great Lakes in the northwest flow aloft so as one system departs, another arrives. Much of the dayside today should be ok. A south to southwest wind is better than an east wind so look for temperatures to top in the 60s today. There is enough space be3tween the two system to leave us in mostly sunny skies today, though some clouds could start coming in late in the day. Radars at least during the dayside should be quiet.

Tonight and Sunday which is of course Mother’s Day, an upper trough and weak front will move through and with it will come some some showers overnight into Sunday afternoon. It doesn’t rain all day and it doesn’t rain everywhere all at once so there will be some dry periods but in between all that, probably we will see lots of clouds with highs again mostly in the 60s.

Next week we will start off with Monday likely being a dry and mainly sunny for much of the day but lately these nice days have been one offs. The northwest flow in the Eastern US brings one weather system after another and we see that happening again. A warm front approaches Monday with some showers to the north and northwest in upstate NY.

Low pressure is coming out of the Southern Plains and taking a track east northeastward Monday night and Tuesday. Severe weather with this system will likely occur across the Gulf States and the Deep South with this system taking a southern route. It puts the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic again in the land of gloom & doom Tuesday and Wednesday with an onshore flow and areas of rain to deal with.

As far as temperatures go we should be in the upper 60s and lower 70s for highs both Monday. Tuesday could turn out to be a bit higher, mostly in the 70s except along south and east facing shorelines. We look for the chance for showers as the low approaches later Tuesday and probably rain for Tuesday night into at least part of Wednesday as the system passes to the southeast. We will likely catch a break Thursday as high pressure sandwiches in between two systems and that means clouds and the chance for rain or showers will be in the forecast for Friday.
