Severe Weather Risk Thursday Father’s Day Weekend Looking Wonderful
The next cold front is moving along to the east this morning and showers running out ahead of it have already spread into parts of the Northeast. This is going to be followed by showers and some thunderstorms into this afternoon and there is severe weather risk. The Storm Prediction Center continues to indicate a slight risk for severe thunderstorms from Northern New England south to Virginia and west to Kentucky. There is also a 2 to 5 percent risk for tornadoes in New England because the stronger storms will likely be to the north, closer to the low center in Southeastern Canada.

WEATHER RADAR
This is going to be a very warm very humid day as dew points have risen up to near 70 and temperatures will follow suit. Most highs will reach the middle to upper 80s though rain and thunderstorms will be moving temperatures around somewhat today. Some warmer spots in South Jersey and points southward could see highs reach close to 90 degrees.
The front will pass through and weather conditions will improve late this afternoon as drier air arrives on northwest winds. Skies should partially clear tonight though we are going to see some high clouds from southern moisture, the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur could briefly bring a little rain in Southern New Jersey for a few hours early Friday morning. Otherwise Friday will be a day of clouds and some sunshine. Highs will be mostly in the lower 80s.
The northwest flow from Canada remains firmly in place for the weekend and this is going to bring dew points down to the low and mid 50s Saturday and even lower Sunday. We don’t have any weather issues for the weekend. Saturday should be a nice day with no worse than partly sunny skies. Most highs will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s with low humidity, and no rain in the forecast. Sunday is Father’s Day and we will repeat the sunshine and dry conditions with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Monday sees another cold front that will be approaching and this front is likely to bring some showers early in the day as the warmer and more humid air arrives followed by showers and thunderstorms later in the day Monday into Monday night. This front will move along and expect drier air to return for Tuesday into Wednesday. Eventually this flow from Canada will weaken and we will be dealing with longer lasting heat and humidity but that probably doesn’t happen until late next week or next weekend at the earliest.
