Hot But Less Humid & Perhaps Less Hazy In Some Places Downpours Thunderstorms Severe Weather Risk Saturday

We have another hot day ahead but the temperatures have been trending lower and the humidity has eased considerably. The haze and smoke from the Canada wildfires however continues to be an issue. From Northern New Jersey north and east you will catch a bit of a break today however in much of Pennsylvania and the rest of New Jersey, the hazy smoke will be an issue. There will be hazy sunshine and highs today will be in the mid 80s to around 90 degrees or so with the highest temperatures to the south.

The smoke is forecast to return Friday night and then lift up and out to the northeast Saturday morning. This is due to an approaching low pressure system and cold front so you will be trading the smoke for some downpours and some thunderstorms developing Saturday morning lasting into Saturday night. The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a large area of slight risk or 15 percent chance for severe storms and a 2 to 5 percent chance of a tornado or two spinning up.

Downpours will arrive Saturday morning and continue on and off into Saturday night. We are going to be loaded with moisture and the area could see an inch to an inch and a half area wide but as always in convective situations, some local amounts could be 50 or even 100 percent higher than the broad brush forecast and flash flood risks are elevated.

Obviously Sunday is the better of the two weekend days. The showers and storms will be long gone and we will see sunshine and lower humidity. Most highs Sunday will be in the low to mid 80s. Monday will be a dry day but another cold front arrives Tuesday and another round of downpours and thunderstorms is likely. Have a great weekend!
