Heat Humidity & Thunderstorms On The Way Next Few Days Severe Weather Risks Rise

The humidity arrives today as dew points rise through the 60s. The heat arrives tomorrow and in between the two, we have some shower and thunderstorm risk later today into this evening. In fact the Storm Prediction Center is indicating a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms as a warm front passes through from the west. We do see some areas of showers and thunderstorms running around on local radars.

We do have cloud cover to deal with today and that is going to help to hold temperatures down somewhat in some places but there will be some breaks of sunshine too which will allow for daytime heating to occur. An upper trough moving eastward will likely set off some patchy areas of showers and thunderstorms later today into tonight. Temperatures today should reach the 80s in most places in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. 70s to near 80 are forecast for Southeast New York & south and east facing shorelines like Long Island and South Coastal New England.

Once the warm humid air mass gets established we will see very warm overnight conditions and Thursday morning lows will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Thursday will be hot and very humid with sunshine taking highs to a range of 90 to 95 degrees. There is the risk of thunderstorm activity and the Storm Prediction Center has raised the risk level to slight from marginal.

Friday will be another day of hot and humid conditions with some sunshine and there is the risk again for thunderstorms. This time around, the thunderstorms will be triggered by an upper trough and weather front that will be moving through so severe weather risk will be elevated for a third consecutive day and we will be watching for an upgrade in severe weather risks in later forecasts. Highs Friday again will reach the low and even a few middle 90s. It will be a little cooler at the shore with local sea breezes possible.

The weekend looks to be dry with little or no shower or thunderstorm activity. We will see sunshine for both Saturday and Sunday and dew points will be lower as they drop into the 50s. However we do see temperatures remaining on the hot side with highs both Saturday and Sunday in the upper 80s to some lower 90s. There could be some shower or thunderstorm activity Sunday evening as another cold front passes and next week will certainly start off cooler.
