Chance for Showers Tonight & Again Sunday

Ahead of Coldest Air of the Season So Far

We have two cold fronts to deal with this weekend. The first one is approaching from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. We already have some clouds that are arriving with this front but rain should stay way until after sunset. Temperatures today will reach the 60s. Then we will get into some showers tonight lasting into early Saturday morning. There might be a heavier downpour or two in the mix but rainfall is not likely to amount to much. Most places will see less than a quarter of an inch and in some places less than a tenth of an inch or less.

Overnight into Saturday morning temperatures will be in the 40s to near 50. While there might be a leftover shower or two around daybreak near the coast, overall Saturday we will see some sunshine develop. Temperatures Saturday are going to be on the warm side as the air behind this first cold front is about the same as the air ahead of it. High temperatures will be in the 60s and it could reach mid to upper 60s in some warm spots.

The second cold front approaches Sunday as low pressure heads out of the lower Ohio Valley and runs up into Upstate New York and New England. Ahead of the front we will see some showers developing Sunday. We could wind up with a quarter of an inch or so of rain from this front. More importantly is that the front marks the leading edge of the coldest air mass of the Autumn season so far. Sunday highs will reach into the 60s before the front passes through.

Showers should me mostly done by early Monday morning but then in comes the cold air. One signature regarding next week will be the wind. Once the winds pick up later Monday we will see windy conditions lasting all week long thanks to a strong northwest flow out of Canada. Temperatures will be in the 40s Monday and then drop to the 20s Monday night into Tuesday morning. The coast and warmer urban locations will be in the lower 30s. Tuesday will be windy and cold with highs just in the low to mid 40s. Temperatures will start bouncing a little higher Wednesday and beyond however we will have below average temperatures all of next week. Once the Sunday front passes we will see little to no precipitation except for areas inland Monday where there might be some snow showers running around.
