On & Off Shower Risks Into The Weekend As Humidity Rises

Yesterday’s dry air and sunshine will be slowly fading away later today. Humidity levels are going to be coming up today but not until later in the afternoon and evening and not to any unreasonable levels. We will see some sun as well as some clouds today. As the more humid air arrives it could set off a shower or downpour midday or early afternoon but it won’t last long if it happens and it won’t amount to much. Otherwise not a bad day today with highs reaching the low and middle 80s. Dew points will be rising into the low 60s by the end of the day.

WEATHER RADAR

Tonight we have a weak weather front approaching. It is weak because the air behind the front is not dry and most of the energy with the front will be to our north. There will be a narrow line of showers and perhaps a rumble or two of thunder as the front moves through. The risk for any showers will be overnight and it is possible that the area could weaken some as it nears the coast. The rain should not amount to much.

The weather front is going to leave us in a bit of a no man’s land for Friday and Saturday. Friday we will have clouds and some sun along with the risk for a scattered shower or thunderstorm with highs in the mid to upper 80s. The stalled front will have a wave along it so clouds will roll in Friday night. Some rain will move through Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey Saturday morning and perhaps the northern edge makes it briefly to New York City.

The cloud cover probably means that temperatures will be contained in the 70s to around 80 for highs. The wave will eventually drive the frontal boundary further south and that bodes well for more in the way of sunshine for Sunday. Temperatures Sunday will reach the middle to upper 80s except at the shore where local sea breezes will keep temperatures a bit more in check.

Next week doesn’t look especially active regarding showers and thunderstorms. Instead later next week and especially for the 4th of July holiday weekend we are looking at hot weather return with temperatures in the 90s. In some areas that starts Thursday but everyone should be in the heat Friday right through the 4th of July weekend. That heat will come with only minimal chances for a shower or thunderstorm popping up.
