Warm Week Ahead Monday the Warmest Day, Onshore Winds,

Showers Thunderstorms Risks

Today, Monday, will wind up being the warmest day of the week. We have solid launching pad with veryw arm overnight lows so this at least suggests that temperatures will have no problem reaching the 80s for highs especially from NYC south and west. However there is a weak back door cold front on the surface maps across Upstate NY which is dropping southward today.

Backdoor cold fronts are called this because they come in from the north and northeast rather than from the west as most weather fronts do. We tend to see these more in the spring and early summer and that often can make for difficult temperature forecast. These fronts tend to be shallow in nature is it becomes all about wind direction and timing. North and east of the front this afternoon, which may find its way down to NYC and Northern New Jersey, temperatures will top in the upper 70s to around or just over 80 while south and west of the front in South Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania it could be in the 80s to around 90 degrees for highs.

There should be a fair amount of sunshine today with no rain issues even with the front moving southward. Tonight with the front stalled from NYC northwest into Northeast Pa and southeast to off the south shore of Long Island, if you are in that narrow zone there could be clouds and maybe a passing shower or two.

Tuesday will be a slightly cooler day though still warm with highs in the mid 70s to lower 80s from north to south. Look for sunshine and arriving clouds. A cold front from the west will be moving through and this could set off some showers or maybe a thunderstorm late Tuesday into Early Wednesday. This front is not all that strong and heavier rain will tend to be well inland rather than along coastal areas. I’m not expecting very much.

Wednesday through Friday will be a stretch of changeable sky conditions. We will see lower temperatures but still on the warm side of normal. There could be some scattered showers around Wednesday as well as cloudy to partly sunny skies. Thursday and Friday look to be dry days with highs in the 70s both days. Each day this week will feature cooler than average temperatures along south and east facing shorelines. The next cold front of importance probably comes over the weekend with some showers and possible thunderstorms at some point.
