Warm More Humid Finish to August Thunderstorm Risk Later Today
The weather pattern remains one where weather systems both weak and strong are moving along in the flow. A weak one is approaching today so we are seeing some clouds coming into the mix, humidity levels going up as dew points rise, and there is the risk that we could see some scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. There is always the chance that the odd stronger storm could trigger off some localized flash flooding but the risk is marginal, under 15 percent. As for what happens before any storms, it will be a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures reaching the 80s in most places.

During tonight as the disturbance passes through we could see another shower or thunderstorm roll by during the early morning hours but any activity should be gone by daybreak. Most lows will be in the 60s. Monday is shaping up to be an okay day with sunshine but it will be on the humid side. There is the risk for an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. High temperatures will again reach into the 80s in most places.
Monday night a warm front will be setting up across Upstate New York and some areas across Eastern Pennsylvania to New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and Long Island could see a round of thunderstorms roll through during the early morning hours. Then as we get some daytime heating into the mix, a second round of thunderstorms comes Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a marginal to slight risk for severe storms developing. This is their day 3 forecast so it is likely to change and probably expanded to some extent. Also we should note that there is a marginal risk for flash flooding over the next 3 days thanks to tropical moisture and a low threshold for flash flooding these days. It doesn’t seem to take much to set it off. Ahead of any storms Tuesday we will see some sunshine and highs again into the 80s. Daily thunderstorm risks likely continue for the rest of the week.
