Warm Fronts Clouds & Other Issues As We Try to Warm Up

Late winter and early spring warm ups are difficult affairs. The ocean is cold and we have to also deal with cloud cover as these warm fronts form and move through. Such is the case today as we see clouds developing ahead of low pressure that will be moving southeast from the Great Lakes to New England and a forming frontal boundary that will be running from Michigan to Connecticut tonight and Wednesday. Clouds today will keep temperature from rising much above the low and middle 40s in most places.

WEATHER RADAR

Not much is on the radars right now but we will start to see precipitation develop across Upstate New York and New England late tonight and Wednesday morning. We will like on the warm side of the frontal boundary. That should keep temperatures overnight in the 30s and mostly above freezing. There will also be some spotty light rain or drizzle that could develop.

Wednesday is going to be one of those days where temperatures are going to have a 20 degree spread from low to high. If you are in the Hudson Valley to Connecticut and points north and east, temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania southward will at least reach into the 50s. Cloud cover and wind direction will be determining highs.

There could be a few showers in the mix Wednesday from New York City north and east. Thursday we should squeeze out a half way decent weather day as this weather system moves to the east and some drier air comes in behind it. Let’s call at a day of some sunshine. Highs will be mostly in the 40s.

Another warm front cold front scenario sets up for later Friday into Friday night. Attention over the weekend will turn to Sunday and the possibility of a developing storm system along the coast which is being picked up by most of today’s weather models including the GFS and the ICON. We of course need a few more days to see how this all sorts out since we have been down this particular road several times this winter.
