Turning More Humid Watch For Showers

Thursday Brings A Cold Front Severe Weather Risk

We will be transitioning to a warmer and more humid air mass today and that means that dew points will be rising today. There are going to me more clouds around as the warmer air arrives and with that, the risk for some showers or downpours though it is the sort of set up where some of you see it and some of you don’t. The satellite loops show the cloud cover isn’t solid so there will be some sunshine in the mix to. A south wind helps to moisten things up and highs will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s this afternoon. Radars are picking up on some patchy areas of showers and they will be around from time to time today into tonight.

The shift to higher temperatures and humidity will only be for one day as a strong cold front is heading east across the Midwest today producing widespread severe weather from Iowa to Indiana. While this area will be hit rather hard, we expect the thunderstorm activity will be less robust when it arrives during Thursday but there will be severe weather risk across the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states per the Storm Prediction Center.

A slight risk or a 15 percent chance is being indicated from New England to Virginia and the primary risk will be strong gusty winds of 50 mph or more from stronger cells. We will be watching things as they develop Thursday. Thunderstorms could be here as early as midday and continue into the afternoon. Ahead of that some sun will take temperatures to the upper 80s to some lower 90s with the hottest temps from Southern New Jersey south.

Storms will end Thursday evening and this leads to improving weather conditions Friday. Some sunshine returns with lower humidity and highs in the low 80s in most places. The weekend is looking beautiful with sunshine for both Saturday and Sunday which is Father’s Day. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s both days. Nights will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Humidity levels will be very low and no rain is in the forecast. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms comes Monday with another cold front approaching from the Midwest.
