Showers Around Today & Friday Ahead of a Very Warm Weekend

A cold front has passed through however we have a rather strong upper air low that will be sitting over the Northeast today into Friday and that complicates the forecast. An offshore low to the east extends an arm back to the coast producing showers. The shower activity will be more continuous north and east of New York City. We are on the edge of this so look for clouds and some showers around, less as you head south through New Jersey and more as you head north and east into Connecticut. Most highs will be in the 60s.

The influence of the upper low will start to diminish somewhat Thursday night and Friday but there still could be some scattered showers around. Coupled with changeable sky conditions across Eastern Pennsylvania and you will have temperatures that will probably be in the 60s to around 70 degrees. However the upper air low will pull out Friday night and that changes things for the weekend.

Once the upper low and trough lift northeastward a ridge of high pressure off the Southeast US coast will build westward and a west to southwest wind will take over. This is going to allow for sunshine to return Saturday and temperatures will respond nicely by climbing to the upper 70s and lower 80s, except along the immediate coast where local sea breezes will likely keep things a bit cooler.

There is a weak back door cold front to the north that will sink southward during the day Sunday but it will not impact temperatures which have no way to go but up. As long as winds hold from the west, temperatures will climb up to the middle and upper 80s in most places. Even areas along the coast should reach 80 degrees or higher before any sea breeze action develops and it may be confined just to the immediate coast.

Very warm and mostly dry conditions will continue for Monday and Tuesday of next week. The next cold front probably arrives late Wednesday when we could run the risk for showers and some thunderstorms depending on how strong the front is. We could see temperatures in the mid to upper 80s Monday away from the coast and possibly hitting 90 degrees in many locations Tuesday. The latter portion of next week looks to be cooler.
