Severe Storm & Flash Flood Risks Continue Today Improving Weather Tuesday
Most of Eastern Pennsylvania to New Jersey to Southern New England had heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight and we have more work to do day regarding these risks. The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms this afternoon as the slow moving cold front to the west moves along and finally exits offshore. In addition we continue to have heavy rain risks and overnight flash flooding continues today.
The front is oriented north south and satellite and radar loops show areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms moving north northeastward ahead of that frontal boundary. Another inch or 2 of rain is possible on top of what fell overnight and local amounts could be 50 to 100 percent higher. The front should finally push offshore late this afternoon and evening and areas of rain and thunderstorms will come to an end. In between areas of thunderstorms don’t be shocked if the sun breaks out for a time. Highs will reach the 80s. Humidity levels obviously are very high.

Weather conditions will improve overnight as drier air arrives on northwest winds. Skies should at least partially clear from northwest to southeast and lows overnight will be in the 60s to around 70 degrees. Tuesday sees the return of sunshine and little to no risk for any shower or thunderstorm activity. High temperatures Tuesday will be in the low to middle 80s.
The frontal boundary likely stalls in the Mid Atlantic and there will be showers and storms developing there as well as in the Southeast US. How far north that moisture gets remains a question. We will go with a partly sunny day Wednesday and the outside chance for a shower or thunderstorm. The highest chances likes across Southern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jerse and points south. Wednesday highs will be in the 80s.
That southern moisture and another approaching upper trough likely brings an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday but it also brings with it very warm and very humid conditions as both Thursday and Friday we could see temperatures well into the 80s to near 90 degrees. This more than likely carries into the upcoming weekend.
