New Year Arrive With Snow Squalls Now It’s Dry Cold Through the Weekend

Happy New Year and the new year started off with some snow overnight and some snow squalls this morning as another cold front passes through. The front is moving offshore and taking snow showers and snow squalls with them. It leaves us with a cold partly sunny New Year’s Day. Temperatures today will be topping out in the upper 20s and  lower 30s along with a bit of a gusty breeze. Radars will be quieting down as we move through the day and it appears we will stay dry for the most part over the next several days.

Tonight across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England it will be very cold under mainly clear skies. Friday morning lows will be in the mid to upper teens inland and upper teens and lower 20s coast and warmer urban locations. We have no weather issues for Friday as it should be a nice day of sunshine with some passing clouds but it will be cold with highs just back into the upper 20s to some lower 30s.

The weekend brings low pressure into the Southeast US with rain reaching as far north as Virginia and the Delmarva Peninsula for a short period of time. The low is going to move to the east and offshore since it is not phasing with an upper trough moving across the Great Lakes. That upper trough will perhaps set off some scattered snow showers Saturday night into early Sunday morning but they will not amount to much.

The bottom line is that we have a cold weekend with minimal precipitation issues other than some scattered snow showers Saturday night. Both Saturday and Sunday will be no worse than partly sunny. Highs both days will be in the lower end range of the 30s. Next week will start cold but a warm front passing Tuesday will usher in a milder than average weather patter for the second half of the week. Little in the way of precipitation is forecast for the first week of January.
