Hot Weather Continues Into Saturday

With Late Day & Nighttime Showers & Thunderstorms

Today marks the second day of 90 degree plus highs for some of you. If you didn’t get to 90 degrees yesterday you will today. Fortunately the air in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states is still on the dry side so with dew points in the 50s, it shouldn’t be too uncomfortable. However it will be hot. Most inland highs will be in the lower 90s. We will see plenty of sunshine. Radars will remain nice and quiet. Tonight will be on the warm side with most lows Saturday morning in the 60s.

That launchpad for Saturday is set to blast temperatures again with highs in the low to even some middle 90s. The humidity will be moving up however as dew points climb to the upper 50s and lower 60s making it a little more uncomfortable but not terrible by any means. Sea breezes will be confined mostly to the immediate coast and that should allow temperatures to make a run toward 90 degrees and then ultimately fall back some.

At this point the dry high over the Eastern US is offshore and attention will turn to a cold front dropping southward from the Great Lakes and Upstate New York. During the day Saturday thunderstorms are likely to break out across Pennsylvania and New York state and then sink southward late in the day. The coast may have to wait until after sunset for showers and thunderstorms to come into play but inland areas could see some thunderstorms develop late in the afternoon and early evening.

The Storm Prediction Center is raising the risk profile from marginal to slight risk across Central New England areas across the southern half of New York, Northern New Jersey and virtually  all of Pennsylvania into Ohio. We will see showers and thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday morning but there is a fair chance that we could see improving weather conditions developing from north to south during Sunday afternoon.

Dry air will be funneling its way southward from high pressure building in New England. Sunday highs will be in the 80s as winds shift to the northwest and north. Dew points should be dropping during Sunday afternoon. Next week will be mostly on the dry side and while it will start off cooler, expect warmer temperatures to return later next week.
