Hot Humid Wednesday 100 Degree Highs Possible Especially New Jersey South
This is going to be a very interesting day. We have heat, humidity, the low chance (but not zero) for an isolated severe thunderstorm, and finally we have wildfire smoke to deal with as plumes sweep southeastward from Canada. Northwest flows in the upper atmosphere can produce this and it isn’t the first time. First off the heat. Temperatures today will top out near 100 degrees from Central New Jersey south while most highs will be in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon.
Wildfire smoke during the day will mainly be across New York State down to about New York City and points east across New England and Long Island. The smoke will cut down the sunlight making for hazy skies so it might knock the daytime highs by a few degrees. We will see that smoke spread southward through New Jersey and Pennsylvania tonight.

WEATHER RADAR
Radars aren’t showing much at the moment however we do have a weather front coming through. The front on the whole is weak however there is the chance that a narrow line of thunderstorms develops late this afternoon in east west fashion and moves quickly southeast and east offshore. Most of you won’t see this but there is the chance for an isolated severe thunderstorm per the Storm Prediction Center.
This front will usher in drier air so look for humidity levels to drop rather sharply Thursday and Friday though the temperatures will only ease slightly. We are at peak summer temperatures for the next couple of weeks and then we begin the downhill slide. Thursday will be partly to mostly sunny. Most highs will be in the 90s with easing humidity.
The easing of humidity continues Friday as dew points drop into the 50s. Friday dayside will be mainly sunny and hot with highs again reaching into the 90s. Over the weekend we will see some chances with an approaching weather front and that means that we will see increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms that will stretch into early Sunday. With that comes lower temperatures but higher humidity. Next week will be cooler than this week with no heatwaves but there will be shower and thunderstorm chances along the way.
