Another Round of Downpours & Thunderstorms

Slow Improvement Over The Weekend

We have arrived at the end of the week where some areas have gotten as much as 2 months worth of rain and we are only 10 days into July. Very warm and humid conditions continue today and we have another upper trough and cold front that will be approaching. Ahead of this we will have sunshine taking highs to the upper 80s to near 90 degrees this afternoon and then the front gets close enough to produce some showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center is indicating that there is risk for isolated severe thunderstorms but the bigger risk is the potential for some flash flooding as thresholds for flood are very low. The ground is saturated so it would not take much to set off some localized flash flooding in some of the downpours. Once the evening passes, showers will end but there will be a lot of leftover clouds around. Most lows Saturday morning will be in the mid 60s inland and lower 70s warmer urban locations.

The cold front that passes Friday night will move slowly southward Saturday but it will be close enough to keep leftover clouds around. There will be some leftover downpours in South Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania into early afternoon. Otherwise in areas to the north and northwest of New York City we could break out into some sun. Highs Saturday will be in the low to middle 80s.

Northeast winds Sunday and higher pressure to the north should bring the humidity down some during Sunday as dew points edge into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Sunday should be a nice day of sunshine with no rain in the forecast. High temperatures will be in the low 80s for the most part with local sea breezes developing at area beaches. Next week starts warm but beginning Tuesday heat returns though the extreme heat and 100 degree plus highs will likely be avoided. We will still see temperatures reach into the 90s Tuesday and low to mid 90s for the remainder of next week.
