Severe Weather Risk Friday Ahead of a Very Chilly Autumn Weekend

`

We have a warm front going by this morning and that is taking the first round of showers to the northeast. We will get a break into this afternoon and probably some sunshine breaks out. Then the cold front arrives and it is a sharp one. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely late this afternoon and evening and the Storm Prediction Center is indicating a slight risk or a 15 percent chance for severe weather being in the mix. Temperatures this afternoon will be topping out in the 70s before the cold front arrives and passes.

WEATHER RADAR

Once the front passes through and offshore winds will shift and pick up from the northwest and we will see temperatures Saturday morning in the 40s. There might be some leftover clouds early in the day Saturday but then it will go at least to partly sunny skies. Gusty winds of 30 mph or more will make highs in the low to mid 50s feel at least 10 degrees colder.

Then we move in to Saturday night which will be the coldest night of the Autumn season so far. We will also likely see inland areas north and northwest of the the coast near 32 or even less by Sunday morning so inland areas are at risk for the first freeze of the season. Low temperatures Sunday morning everywhere will be down in the 30s and cold spots near 30. There will also be a wind so frost seems unlikely unless the wind were to completely drop off.

Winds will drop off as the day wears on Sunday which will be a mostly sunny day. High pressure will be moving overhead Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. High temperatures Sunday will be in the 50s again and we will be down in the 30s inland Monday morning. Inland areas could see a frost. Coastal and warmer urban centers will drop to the lower 40s. Monday we will see some sunshine and highs should bounce back into the 60s in most places. No rain is in the forecast through early next week.
